This searchable Urban Heat Action and Policy Database was developed using the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Heat Vulnerability Framework and adapted to include interventions and mechanisms of action. Here we define policy broadly to include heat action plans, initiatives, pilot projects, ordinances, and legislation affecting population’s heat sensitivity and adaptive capacity. Based on publicly available materials, targeted web-based searches, and insights from meetings with advocates and researchers based in the focal cities, we have categorized each policy action according to the Heat Vulnerability Framework to support city leaders, heat and sustainability advocates and program leaders, researchers, and city residents in advancing policies to manage and reduce city heat, drive sustainability, and foster healthy communities.
We are in the process of expanding the cities included in this database. If you know of a relevant policy for a city we've covered that is not included, please send us an email.
